The Bruno Guimarães to Paris Saint-Germain transfer rumor began earlier this year, but one journalist believes that the Ligue 1 side was never in the mix for the player, and it was one person in the Brazilian’s camp drumming up interest.

According to a recent report from journalist Ben Jacobs, PSG are now no longer in the conversation for Guimarães, and there is no plan to negotiate or trigger the release clause.

In an interview with Culture PSG, journalist Abdellah Boulma provided insight into the Guimarães. He notes that there were small informal contacts, but there was nothing more than that from the Ligue 1 side.

“I believe I was the first to dismiss this rumor during the last winter transfer window,” Boulma said. “There were some informal contacts, of course, but his agent mostly played a lot with the press, the media, observers, and supporters via social media.

“There was nothing with Bruno Guimarães; that’s what we were told from the Paris Saint-Germain side. There was absolutely nothing concrete, really nothing at all. Has the situation changed since then? I have no idea. But at the time when Guimarães was rumored to be approaching Paris Saint-Germain, it was completely false.”

Despite rumors about Guimarães, it seems top European clubs might not desire to trigger the Newcastle standout’s £100 million release clause to lure him away from the Magpies.

This could mean the former Olympique Lyonnais star will stay with the Premier League side next season rather than move elsewhere.
