Eli Manning sparks NWSL feud with Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes ahead of KC Current-Gotham FC match

What do Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and former New York Giants QB Eli Manning have in common?

First off, they've won multiple Super Bowl titles. Mahomes took home Lombardi Trophies in Super Bowl LIV, LVII, and LVIII., and Manning won Super Bowl XLII and XLVI with New York. They're also both part-owners of NWSL franchises. Patrick and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, are part owners of the KC Current. Manning is one of nine owners of Gotham FC, who just became NWSL champions for the first time in 2023.

Ahead of the upcoming opening day match between the KC Current and Gotham FC on Sunday, April, 14, Manning decided to rub that last fact in Mahomes' face.

“Hey Mahomes, you may have one more [Super Bowl ring] than me, but do you have one of these?” Manning said while brandishing Gotham FC's 2023 NWSL Championship Ring. “I don’t think so. See you at the home opener.”

Mahomes issued his response on X (formerly Twitter).

QB1 will let the ladies do the rest of the talking on the pitch on Sunday. The KC Current have won their three matches this year, with nine points on the season. Gotham FC has a 1-0-1 record through two games and just 3 points in the standings on the year. The ladies in teal to get back to the NWSL Championship Game in 2024 after they lost in the big game to the Portland Thorns back in 2022.
