New Orleans Pelicans Rumors: Brandon Ingram and Willie Green Had Uneasy Exchange in Game 2, Per Insider
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Pelicans will have to decide whether they’ll give Brandon Ingram a new extension, as he’ll be playing the final year of his current deal in the 2024-25 season.

Most recently, a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania suggests Brandon Ingram was frustrated with how he’s being utilized on the offensive end by the New Orleans Pelicans, which may play a role in whether the two sides will reach a new agreement.

“There were frustrations throughout Brandon Ingram as far as where he stood late in the playoffs, sitting in one of the late games during the play-in tournament. And I’m told Ingram and Willie Green had an exchange at Game 2 (of their NBA Playoffs first-round series against the Thunder) in the locker room,” Charania detailed via Stadium.

“Sources tell me Ingram essentially told Green he wanted the ball, he wanted Green to help him get the ball. That relationship is something to keep an eye on going into an important summer for Ingram and the Pelicans as they decide how to dictate the future,” he added.

Will the New Orleans Pelicans extend Brandon Ingram?

Brandon Ingram is eligible for a four-year, $208 million extension this summer. However, given his injury history and struggles in the postseason, the New Orleans Pelicans might not be keen on giving him such a large amount of money.

In his five seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans, Ingram never played more than 64 regular-season games. And this year, his regular-season scoring average has gone down from 24.7 to 20.8 points per game.

Brandon Ingram didn’t have a great first-round series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, as he only averaged 14.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.3 turnovers per game on 34.5 percent shooting from the field.
