Former Texas Longhorns QB Hudson Card is transferring to Purdue

Hudson Card saw the writing on the wall in Texas. One might say that he read his cards, saw that his hand was a bust, and cashed out while he still could go home a winner.

It's being announced that Card, a redshirt sophomore, has made a decision to commit to the Purdue Boilermakers just a few weeks after he announced that he was leaving the Texas Longhorns and entering the transfer portal.

It has been a wild few weeks for Purdue, from losing to Michigan in the Big Ten championship game to Jeff Brohm leaving for Louisville, to hiring one of the best young defensive coordinators in college football, Ryan Walters, to replace him.

Card heading to West Lafayette is the next domino to fall for the Boilermakers, and it's a pretty big one all things considered.

Card was never going to be the starter at Texas, but that's not an inditement on his ability as a college football starter. It's actually more of a credit to Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns, who have recruited the top recruit and quarterback in the nation twice. Quinn Ewers, who flashed star potential last season, was the top overall recruit nationally in the 2021 class. Arch Manning, who just signed with Texas as part of the 2023 class, also holds that honor.

A road to meaningful playing time was not in the cards for Card at Texas, but he has an opportunity to be a meaningful piece of the puzzle for Purdue moving forward.

Card has thrown for 1,523 yards and 11 touchdowns over the past three seasons. He still has three years of eligibility remaining thanks to the COVID eligibility extension of 2020.
